To
clear a place on our property to place the house and barn, it was necessary to remove a
number of trees. In addition to these, we had several trees that naturally blew down
due to the high mountain winds. It was our goal to use these resources as a part of
our building process. We not only had our own wood which consisted of oak, ash, and
pine, but were also given seven big cherry logs by Vic and Marlette Cullen. All of
this wood is being milled and will become our cupboards, molding, and trim.
The
first batch of wood was milled by Brice Green, owner of a local sawmill. Once the
wood was cut, it was necessary to dry it prior to using it in our cabinetry. Steve
and Barbara Butler own a local wood processing plant and have their own kilns. They
were gracious enough to help us by running our wood through so that we could begin working
on the cabinetry.
